All modern TVs come from the factory preset to look great in the store which means the brightness is usually turned much higher than it needs to be for home viewing.

Average Television life span: 10 to 20 years

And when the brightness or contrast is set too high, the backlight has to work harder to maintain it.  To sidestep the extra strain this puts on your TV, go to the menu and lowering the brightness, contrast and (if possible) backlight settings as much as you can while maintaining a clear picture.

Why not Add 3 to 6 years to the life of your TV?

ALSO TRY:  Regularly dusting the back of the television as well as the screen. Obstructed vents can lead to life-shortening overheating. It is recommended to keep the TV out of direct sunlight for the same reason.
